my little owl tattoo
my little owl finally 'landed' on me to stay with me always.
this is my third inked work on me.
my first is on my upper back, a verse from psalm 43:3 in Hebrew.
it says, 'o send out thy light and thy truth, let them lead me'.
the second my dear friend and i went together
and had a lotus symbol i drew put on different places
(her wrist and my ankle).
now, my little owl. it took me a long time to get him
and a long time to draw the perfect, simple little owl.
i am very happy, so happy in fact that i started
folklora ink...come and see...

friday was a blessing of a day.
we had good friends over, swam in the pool
enjoying the coolness of the water
and the warmth of summer.
talking, giggling, playing, learning, exploring.
it was a good friday indeed :)

broken and alive
while tending our budding plants and the grass,
the hose slid over and knock down my jar of calendula sprouts.

two days after, the gardeners came and mistakenly weeded out
my little black hollyhock sprout.
I came running out in hopes they wouldn't do more damage
to my two healthy apricot sunflower sprouts.

my lupines have yet to sprout and i think a lamb's ear weed
is growing in the midst of where i put the seeds.
the last litte lupine sprout from a different variation held on to life
for so long and now i believe it's done for too.

not all is lost though.
the borage is doing well, the sage is sprouting, the lavender is thriving.
the tomatoes are growing and changing colors and the silver mist
is ever expanding.

if only the cerinthe, butterfly weed and agastache would sprout.
to begin again with these and others...

I am so very proud of her.
She conquered the water and swam without aid for the very first time today.
Exciting, thrilling, exhilarating.
The work of the arms and legs in the freedom of the water.
Today was a wonderful day of achievement.

I found this photo while perusing my tumblr and quickly reposted it.
i thought the girl, the dress, the composition, everything, was just perfect.
I have found out her name is eve and that she has her own music under the name bird and flower
(the original photo can be found here and it was taken by michelle maguire).
I was drawn to the sweet face, her deep black hair with bangs and her lovely folksy dress
as she stands by a tree from the woods.
I went to take a listen to her bird and flower and i do like it. so have a listen if you like...

there is so much beauty all around
with some things hidden and others found.

our plants have been growing, some more than others.
i've had to nurture a few back to better greenery
and longer sprouts.
some, i'm afraid might be done for and i wish i didn't
have to get sick upon returning from a mini vacation
so that they could get enough water.
as for what is growing in the soil, i am still not sure if
it's our little seeds or just little weeds coming through the ground.
only time will tell i suppose...

we saw it!

we saw it

we saw it last night and i liked it, i have to, it's harry potter!
hagrid accompanied us as he has since the first film was released.
i am very happy i re-read the half-blood prince before i saw the movie.
it helps with all the scenes they do not show and for the scenes they tweak
because they think it will make for better entertainment value.
some scenes i wish they didn't change and would have just stuck to the
brilliance of ms. rowling's original writing.
i just wonder how people do it who have not read the books and miss
so much vital information that gets left out most of the time.
well, i look forward to seeing what they do in conclusion and how
they expect to tie all the loose ends.
j.k. rowling did it impeccably, i don't know how close to perfection
they movie business can get. i hope they do her right by it.

a little mermaid with octopus doll

we went outside and waded, floated and swam in the pool.
it was not an overly hot day and it felt wonderful having the body
suspended in water while the sun warmed my face.
i don't know what it is about the water that feels so great
but it really does.
and as much as i wanted to just relax in it,
it was nice having a little five year old as my mermaid companion too..

i love luna...
I can't wait to see this. I am hoping we will be able to tonight.
I reread the book a couple of weeks ago so that I could be all caught up.
I can't wait to see what they do with it, I can't wait to see the magic
and I can't wait to see the costumes. I love the clothes from the wizarding world...
and yes, i love luna, she's a true unique individual ♥

aesop at the o.c. fair

it's mid-summer now, the night is late,  with opened windows and fans on.
it has been a pretty mild summer which i have been wholly thankful for.
summer brings such nostalgia for me and though i often don't admit it
(or at least, maybe i am beginning to) once summer comes i am happy for it.
not for the immense heat or the blaring sun but for what comes with it,
what thoughts and feelings are joined with it.

last year we went to the orange county fair with my parents.
i've never known myself to love the fair as much as i did that day.
i wish to go again this year, to peruse the vendor tents and visit the
goats, cows, rabbits and other farm animals there.
to have a few infused honey sticks to suck on and to find the queen bee.
to dote on the flowers, vegetables and fruits growing in the earth.
to take pictures and enjoy the fruits of summer.

your color makes me happy...

mama, make me a dress out of feathers
so i can fly in the blue sky and reach the heavens.
mama, make me a coat of fur so i can prowl oe'r
the ground, like a fox, don't worry mama,  i won't get lost.
mama, make me a net of spider webs and i bet
i could reach the stars no matter how far away
they seem to be.
oh mama, mama, let me believe...

(maybe i'll finish this, one day...)

the children and i went outside again today.
we are going to begin a garden.
they took the gloves, the rake and the shovels
and began to upturn the old grass mats
and revealed even older dirt beneath.
i left them with a little chalk drawing
of a fruit tree sprite (orange, the girl says)
to overlook their work and progress...

summer constellations

I'm always in awe of the stars in the heavens.
No matter how many times I look up above me
a huge swelling occurs inside.
It's the seeing of such celestial beauty
and how far and how many there are.
It's the knowing of something far greater and beyond
all things that transpire here on earth.
It's the feeling of smallness in comparison
but not in a negative way.
I can never and will never get over the stars
and what they do to me.

Summer Stars by Carl Sandburg

BEND low again, night of summer stars.
So near you are, sky of summer stars,
So near, a long arm man can pick off stars,
Pick off what he wants in the sky bowl,
So near you are, summer stars,
So near, strumming, strumming,
So lazy and hum-strumming.

rabbit says hello...

It's friday, mid-morning. I don't know what it is about summer, but I love it because it opens the door for my thoughts for autumn. It's a little nostalgic for me, and magical too. It's something that happens to me every summer.

Today is a lazy day which I am thankful for. After this, I'll polish the girls toe nails and we will lounge, maybe do a craft and maybe fix the beds too!

So for this friday I thought I would do another fawned fridaywhich I haven't done in awhile. I'll do it with photo favorites of mine from flickr (I love that site!) Just click on the photos for photo credit...

To Summer by William Blake
O thou who passest thro' our valleys in
Thy strength, curb thy fierce steeds, allay the heat
That flames from their large nostrils! thou, O Summer,
Oft pitched'st here thy goldent tent, and oft
Beneath our oaks hast slept, while we beheld
With joy thy ruddy limbs and flourishing hair.

Beneath our thickest shades we oft have heard
Thy voice, when noon upon his fervid car
Rode o'er the deep of heaven; beside our springs
Sit down, and in our mossy valleys, on
Some bank beside a river clear, throw thy
Silk draperies off, and rush into the stream:
Our valleys love the Summer in his pride.

Our bards are fam'd who strike the silver wire:
Our youth are bolder than the southern swains:
Our maidens fairer in the sprightly dance:
We lack not songs, nor instruments of joy,
Nor echoes sweet, nor waters clear as heaven,
Nor laurel wreaths against the sultry heat.

moon resized and colored...

just came back from a few errands. i was reminded in this beautiful day that i am behind in my reading. i'm currently reading the jungle books by rudyard kipling and he is just amazing in his wording and details. i need to read it because it is good and because i want to freshen up my harry potter and read the half blood prince again before the movie comes out in july. reading is just good. it's good for the soul, good for the imagination. i just love the places it can take you....
